“The Rocket” is a style of yoga developed by Larry Schultz in San Francisco during his travels as yoga teacher for the Grateful Dead. Rocket Yoga is rooted in the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga practice. It is restructured from the Primary and Intermediate Series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and combines the best of both words. If you’re familiar with either style of yoga and you love flowing around on your mat, you’ll love the Rocket. Appropriately dubbed the “feel-good”routine, the sequence and philosophy are well thought out, and proven to be effective over years of experience practicing in this system. These routines approach the Ashtanga Vinyasa system in an open, fun and challenging way. Workshops are for yogi’s of all levels. Just bring an openness and interest in exploring your own capacity and learning some new fun things!

ABOUT DAVID KYLE: David is a senior teacher of the It’s Yoga System and founder of the Progressive Ashtanga Yoga Movement that honors the practices of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Larry Schultz. Weekend Workshops:

Location: SATURDAY WORKSHOPS @ Fine Spirit Studio

  • Sat 9/8 9am-12pm  Rocket II Workshop – Technique and Transition

This workshop gives the opportunity to see the Rocket 2 class at a slower pace to give more time for alignment techniques and to show alternate beginner and advanced transitions that normally would not find their way into such a high pace vinyasa class and find time to explore different options that may suit your personal practice better. There will be space allowed for questions in this class and lots of demonstration of each of the options that are in the series.  Whether you’re looking to perfect inversions, get a nice introduction to these poses, or teach others these poses, this is the workshop for you. Once these postures are accessible, you will be able to focus on the advanced transitions that can be used to float you from one pose to the next with the greatest of ease!

  • ŸSat 9/8 3-6pm   Ashtanga Yoga Bandhas Workshop – The art of lifting

Designed to give students and teachers a more direct look at the techniques used to strengthen the awareness of our internal locks and the necessary support that is created through bandha control.  What move the postures beyond simple exercise is a yogis ability to keep the breath moving the body and the bandhas moving the internal energies while holding a posture all at the same time.  Without breath and bandha there is no asana practice.  Take a deeper look at the Mula Bandha, Uddiyana Bandha, and Jalandhara Bandha.  What exercises can be used to strengthen each area and support the movement of energy in and up. We’ll also look at some Hatha Bandhas like Hasta Banda and Pada Banda.  Sun salutations and the seated vinyasas will be used as practice examples in how the bandha control can give you the “lift” your looking for when floating in the vinyasa practice.

Location: SUNDAY WORKSHOPS: @ Fine Spirit Studio

  • ŸSun 9/9 9am – 12pm Full Primary Series/ Half Second Series + Q & A

Without knowing Full Primary and Second series you will never truly know the Rocket Series created by Larry Schultz.  The Rocket Series is based on traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa practice.  Specifically primary and second series of Ashtanga Vinyasa. Its all about knowing your “Roots”.  Join this class and enjoy a special taste Ashtanga Yoga through “Master Chef” David Kyle:)  We will explore traditional vinyasa counts, full vinyasa vs. half vinyasa and lost techniques and transitions David learned from senior teachers along his path. Following the practice, David will lead a question and answer session, providing an opportunity for students and teachers to gain more insight into poses and yoga-related topics that are not possible to cover during a workshop.

  • ŸSun 9/9 3-6pm Inversion Workshop “Take It Up!”

This class is focused directly on Elbow Stands and Handstands!  No messing around with any other inversions in this workshop as we dive straight into two of the most desirable postures in the Rocket Series.  Once a student can learn to seamlessly place these postures into their practice without having to stop to go to a wall, the effects of the practice become 10x stronger!  The focus, control and dedication it takes to learn how to turn your world upside down is going to expand your practice and broaden your horizons.  Some familiarity with handstand and forearm stand is ideal, whether using a wall or not.
